Thane Wetjen, a Heartland junior, has the buzz for bees. He first got interested in raising his own bees after talking with Heartland 2022 graduate Carson Ott. Ott received a scholarship to start his bee business through the Nebraska Beekeepers Association by writing an essay about how to save the bees a few years back.
There was no give-up in the Huskies Friday night in their matchup against McCool Junction, but the Mustangs prevailed, winning 36-24.
The Lady Huskies got off their losing streak this week by sweeping Fillmore-Central 3-0 on Tuesday, September 12. They won 25-23, 25-20, and 25-22 on Fillmore-Central’s home court.

The Yorkfest Parade on Saturday, September 9, has come and gone, but the coveted traveling trophy will stay with the Heartland High School Band. Not only did the band win the 2023 Cornerstone Bank Governor’s Trophy for 1st overall band and 1st in C Class, but they will keep the Traveling Trophy—again.

The Heartland Girls’ Golf Team had a busy week traveling to back-to-back meets on Monday to Fairbury and Tuesday to Friend this week. Mia Hiebner was up to the task. She carded an 82 (41-41), winning first place at the Fairbury Country Club on Monday and an 83 (38-45) at Friend on Tuesday.
The idea of finding a way for his young sons to play football in youth league blew up into something Greg Boehr never could have imagined. Today, it’s called the Farmers Valley Youth Football League. It consists of an 11-man division with eleven teams and an 8-man Division with 18 teams participating.
