This year’s “Christmas in July” theme for Henderson Community Days got an early kickoff at the Heritage Park’s Kids Camp this past Wednesday afternoon. Seventeen kids learned how to make denim dolls, “Ned & Nettie” the old fashioned way with denim strips and strings. Afterwards they were served some traditional Christmas snacks of orange slices, peanuts, and chocolate stars.

Florence Friesen provided the step by step instructions for the kids and Heritage Park volunteers helped them make the dolls. The kids took a quick tour of the Depot and Immigrant House where they viewed the new displays of vintage children’s toys.

Next Wednesday morning another Kids Camp will be held at the Heritage Park called  “From Russia to Henderson.” Kids will reenact the immigrants long journey from Russia across the ocean and the train ride to Nebraska. Unfortunately, registration for this camp has been closed since the session size has been filled.
