Heartland students have been practicing for their upcoming play “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” since January, said Director Lisa Kroeker. The play includes several renditions of well-known Grimm’s Fairy Tales, but in a more unconventional, comedic style.
“I think everyone has had a lot of fun putting this together, and we are excited for the community to come watch it,” said Kroeker.
The cast usually practices a few times a week, but since many of them are involved in sports and other extracurricular activities, their practice schedule varies according to Kroeker. She is no stranger to theater production and has assisted in the last two musicals at Heartland, but this is her first time as the solo director.
For this play, the set is more minimal, with few moving parts, with a little house and Rapunzel’s tower, said Kroeker. “Ian Huebert designed the set and has helped with the painting, along with Lacey Panko, doing some of the artistic painting. Her husband, Jeff Kroeker, and Huebert built the set. Sheree Goertzen is handling the costumes for the play.”
