Heartland Girls & Boys Post WINS Against Fullerton Warriors Friday at Home

After a long break, the girls’ and boys’ teams played against the Fullerton Warriors at home on Friday, January 5, and came out with wins. The girl’s record is now 3 -6, and the boys are 4-5 with these two wins. Both teams will travel to Cross County for early afternoon games at 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Heartland Huskie GIRLS vs. Fullerton Warriors Stats & Recap:

The girls won a low scoring close one, 26-24, despite scoring no points in the second quarter. They came out strong in the third quarter, scoring 14 points. Several Warrior turnovers helped the Lady Huskies get back in the game, with Hayden Mierau breaking the school record for steals with 10 for the night. This game came down to the final seconds, tied 24-24 with 1:42 to go. Emersyn Oswald stole the ball and made the layup, giving the Huskies a two-point lead. Fullerton missed a last-second chance for a shot, and the Heartland girls grabbed the ball for the win.

Heartland Huskie BOYS vs. Fullerton Warriors Stats & Recap:

The boys were behind as much as ten points in the first half with the Warriors offense heating up. Going into the locker room the Huskies were behind 28-37 after Hendric Switzer hit a three-pointer. But, like the girls, they came out with some fire in the third quarter. They finally got their first lead following a three-pointer by Luis Alvarez, making it 41-39 midway in the third quarter.

The lead kept changing hands through the beginning of the fourth quarter, but the Huskies kept clawing back, staying a few points ahead of the Warriors. Sam Quiring’s three-pointer put the Huskies ahead 50-49. The Warriors continued to pressure the Huskies, but they capitalized by scoring on a few turnovers and making their free throws to win the game 64-53.
