The Henderson Chamber of Commerce held its quarterly meeting on Monday, October 5, in the Gathering Room at Heritage Park, with about 26 people present. Henderson Health Care sponsored the meeting, providing a tasty noon meal and a presentation on its new weight-loss program.

Henderson Healthcare recently introduced an individualized medical weight-management program, which HHCS health providers Samantha Pederson and Tyler Martin explained. Pederson is a physician assistant with more than 100 hours of specialized obesity-medicine training and will provide individualized medical management, including history-taking, lab work, diagnostic testing when needed, and medication discussions.

Martin, a registered dietitian specializing in medical nutrition therapy, will provide individualized nutrition counseling focused on sustainable habits, protein, fiber, healthy fats, carbohydrates, hydration, meal planning, and lifestyle goals.

  • The program combines four pillars: nutrition therapy, physical activity, behavioral health, and medical management. Patients may be referred to physical therapy or other specialists while remaining connected to Henderson Healthcare.
  • The program is intended for people with elevated BMI and chronic disease risks, as well as anyone seeking nutrition guidance, accountability, or lifestyle support. A first nutrition visit is typically 60–75 minutes; Tyler’s initial visit costs $80 if not covered by insurance.

Henderson City Clerk Connie Brown shared updates on an ongoing application for a trail grant to replace and widen the Lakeview Park trail and connect it to the new subdivision. She reported that three Highland lots are sold with one house built.

Grace Staehr from YCDC updated the Chamber about the recent manufacturing tours in York County that Heartland students participated in and the Spark Small Business Pitch Contest. It is scheduled for Thursday, October 8 at York University with 11 participants and mentors.

Chamber Director Nicole Mierau reminded members about the upcoming annual banquet to be held at the Chances R Beer Garden on Friday, Nov. 13, and will feature a casino night theme. The Spirit of Christmas event will be on December 1. The Chamber is accepting nominations for the annual Friend of Henderson Award.
