The Heartland quiz bowl team traveled to Seward on October 7th to compete in the America 250 History Quiz Bowl competition.
The teams competed in three round-robin matches in the morning, with the A team defeating Dorchester and Fullerton B and losing a nail-biter to the eventual runner-up team from Hampton, earning the number 5 seed with a 2-1 record.
The B team was also defeated by Hampton and lost to Osceola and was barely defeated by the Fullerton A team to finish 0-3 and earn the number 10 seed.
The single-elimination tournament in the afternoon began with the B team facing the number 7-seeded team from Howells-Dodge. The match was low-scoring, and unfortunately, the Huskies lost 35-30 and ended the day 0-4.
The A team found themselves in a rematch with the number 4 seed team from Fullerton B. In a high-scoring match, the Huskies found themselves on the short end of the scoreboard, ending the day 2-2.
The fall quiz bowl season has concluded for the Huskies. A few students will be attending the UNL Math Day competition in Lincoln on November 10th. The season will pick back up after the holidays with competitions including SNC and ESU 6 tournaments.
