It’s so fun to look back ten years ago and enjoy some community day events that have come and gone, like the HHCS Junior Auxiliary Jaunt! I was a member of this organization and remember how hard we worked to make this a first-rate running event during community days.

Runners and walkers of all ages and from five different states participated in the tenth annual HHCS Junior Auxiliary Jaunt held recently in conjunction with Henderson’s Community Day events.
The tenth annual event included a 5K and a 10K jaunt that took participants through the southeast portion of town, including Lakeview Park, and out onto a stretch of country roads for the 10 K route. There were 82 entrants with 62 participating in the 5K and 20 in the 10K. Hometown states represented included Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Colorado. The youngest runner was 8-year-old Trent Goertzen of Hampton, and the oldest was an 81-year-old man from Hastings, NE, Ron Tschauner, who walked the 5K.
The 5K race winners were Todd Vlieger in the men’s division from Aurora, NE, finishing at 17:33, and Kennedy Krejdl, also from Aurora, NE, finishing at 20:46 in the women’s division.
Eric Rasmussen of York, NE, who has dominated the 5K in the last several years, won the 10K this year with a finish time of 39:23. The 10K women’s division was won by Maelyn Huebert of Bradshaw with a finish time of 49:05.
The Henderson Health Care Services Junior Auxiliary appreciates the volunteers who helped out to make this event successful. Also, a big thank you to the local business sponsors who made monetary donations or contributed items for the racers’ goody bags.

Henderson Chamber Executive Kelsey Bergen would have won the double stroller division if there had been one!
Lisa Quiring was awarded best superhero costumed runner in keeping with the community days theme. She also placed second in her age division.
Mariah Tessman and Hayden Mierau crossed the finish line together to tie for third place in 15/U girls 5K. They also got runner-up in the superhero costume contest.
High school classmates Karla Block and Margie Waltner of Freeman, SD, walked the 5K together. Their graduating class had a class reunion over the weekend.
