See the latest candidates for open seats on Heartland School Board and Henderson City Council

The deadline to file as a candidate for the primary election for all local offices was 5 p.m. Monday.
Village board members do not participate in the primary election, so they have a later deadline: July 15 for incumbents and Aug. 3 for non-incumbents.
Here’s a complete list of candidates.
County Board
In District 3, Willard Peterson is running against incumbent Andy Bowman.
In District 1, incumbent Daniel Grotz is the only candidate. In District 4, incumbent Randy Obermier is the only candidate.
Other county officials
The county surveyor race has no candidates. Current surveyor Rex Heiden did not file for reelection.
For public defender, Timothy Matas is the only candidate. Public defender David Michel is not seeking reelection.
For sheriff, Josh Gillespie is the only candidate. Sheriff Paul Vrbka is not seeking reelection.
A slew of other county races also have only one candidate:
- For county assessor, incumbent Kurt Bulgrin is the only candidate.
- For county attorney, incumbent Gary Olson is the only candidate.
- For county clerk, incumbent Mary Melby is the only candidate.
- For clerk of the district court, incumbent Sharilyn Steube is the only candidate.
- For treasurer, incumbent Megan Williams is the only candidate.
City Council
On the York City Council, there are four seats up for election and five candidates: Richard McDougall, Amy Lehman and incumbents Doreen Lopez, Scott Van Esch and Stephen Postier. Jeff Pieper is not seeking reelection.
On the Henderson City Council, there are three seats up for election and four candidates: April Prusia and Tanner Steingard and incumbents Jordan Hiebner and Teri Pollet. Brian Hiebner is not seeking reelection.
School boards
On the Heartland School Board, there are three seats up for election and seven candidates: Tiffanee Ogorzolka, Brad Janzen, Erik Friesen, Lance Peters, Curt Friesen, Jaydon Janzen and incumbent Ryan Goertzen. Jennifer Hiebner and Tammy Ott are not seeking reelection.
On the York Public Schools Board, there are three seats up for election and three candidates, all incumbents: Alison North, Alex Hildebrand and Pepper Papineau.
On the McCool School Board, there are three seats up for election and three candidates, all incumbents: Alyisa Clark, Krystal Rasmussen and Matt Clark.
