Another first this spring is the H&H Bearcat Boys Golf Team. They, too, have enjoyed great spring weather for practice the past few weeks at Galaway Creek Golf Course in Henderson.
Seventeen boys are out for the golf team, with six joining the team from Hampton and 11 from Heartland. Seniors on the team are Porter Dose, Wyatt Dose, Klyler Luebbe, Leo McCormick, Landon Mierau, Tyler Mollevik, Andrew Onnen, Weston Panko, and Will Regier.
“Weston is our only returning player with varsity experience. We lost four varsity players from last year, so that is big. This year, we are going to have a lot of playoffs to determine who gets one of the five starting spots,” said Head Coach Chad Buzek.
The Bearcats will open up their season on March 31 with a duel at Sutton, where the entire team will get to play. The golf schedule will be much the same as previous seasons, but there will be more opportunities for the JVs to compete, according to Coach Buzek.
“This is something Mr. Stuckman (Heartland’s AD) and I have been working on, which is increasing JV competition. We want to keep building the JV program, so other schools will want to get in on it just like what has happened in our basketball program,” said Coach Buzek.
Coach Buzek is entering his fourth season as head coach, assisted by Paige Peters. The conference meet will be in Hebron this year, and Coach Buzek said it will be a tough Class C district to compete in for the Bearcats.

“I’m excited about what this team can do, and I’ve seen some good things so far. It’s great to be giving these kids from Hampton the opportunity to golf with the sports coop,” said Coach Buzek.
