Heartland Community School Release
Heartland was represented by two teams at the ESU 6 quiz bowl competition held in Seward on February 11th. The teams were divided into three divisions based on school size, and both teams were in the small school division. The morning consisted of three rounds for each team, and the B team finished the morning with a 0-3 record that earned them the 11th seed for the afternoon tournament. The A team finished the morning with a 3-0 record and earned the tournament’s top seed.
The afternoon rounds began with the B team facing off with the A team from McCool Junction. The team from McCool defeated the Huskies and Heartland B team ended the day with a 0-4 record with close losses to the teams from Shickley and Nebraska Lutheran A.
The A team earned a first-round bye and then faced the Dorchester A team that they had narrowly defeated in a previous round. The Huskies were locked in and defeated Dorchester 90-0. The second round was also a rematch from a close morning round, and the Huskie team started off sluggish and played catch-up the entire match. The outcome of this rematch was reversed, and the Huskies found themselves playing for 3rd place against the team from Shickley. The Huskies were able to earn 3rd place with a decisive win over Shickley.
The team will compete in a few more competitions this spring. The SNC tournament will be hosted by Sandy Creek on March 23rd. The team will also compete in the Seward History/Geography tournament on April 1st as well as the Underclassmen tournament to be held in Seward on May 6th.
