YORK – Roger Lee Abramson, 49, of Henderson, has been charged with first-degree murder and other felonies after trying to beat a man to death with a hammer and a fire extinguisher at the Sun Motel.

According to court documents filed by the York County Sheriff’s Office, they were dispatched to the motel, located at the Henderson interchange, on the report of an assault, on Nov. 14. Deputies found a man sitting in his pickup who said he had been assaulted by Abramson and he reported Abramson had also attacked another man with a hammer and a fire extinguisher.

They arrested Abramson.

According to the affidavit filed with the court, the second victim said Abramson “began to strike him with a hammer, first striking the back of his head, front of his head and left forearm. He said he was struck with the hammer 10-15 times before it broke. After the hammer broke, the victim says Abramson stated, ‘Aren’t you dead yet?’ and then grabbed a fire extinguisher and struck him 6-8 times.”

Both men were taken by Henderson Fire and Rescue to the Henderson Hospital.

Deputies say while they were looking for the hammer and fire extinguisher, they observed “a large amount of blood just outside the motel room. The broken hammer was located on the sidewalk just west of the blood pool. The fire extinguisher was located in the bed of a pickup truck near the office west of the blood pool.”

It is alleged by the second victim that Abramson told him, “I’m going to kill you,” multiple times during the altercation.

Regarding injuries, the first man had three small lacerations on his left forearm. The second man had a laceration 4-5 inches in length in the back of his head, which was actively bleeding, and a laceration on his left forearm.

Abramson has been charged with attempt of a Class 1 felony, a Class 2 felony; second degree assault, a Class 2A felony; terroristic threats, a Class 3A felony; and assault causing bodily injury, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Abramson’s preliminary hearing has been set for Nov. 26 in York County Court.
