MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE HAMPTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The meeting of the Hampton Board of Education of Hampton Public Schools was convened in open and public session on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the Hampton High School, 458 5th Street, Hampton, Nebraska.
The roll was called and the following Board members were present or absent:
Present: Grant Dose, Tamara Wiens, Derek Klute, Brian Litz, Erin Olsen, and Megan Faller
Absent:
Also in attendance were Superintendent Holly Herzberg, Elementary Principal Angie Arndt, High School Principal Carson Klute, Tammy Wolinski, Katelyn Goertzen, Andy Griess, and Ron Burtz-ANR.
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of the meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as attendance of the public.
- Call Meeting to Order: The meeting was duly called to order by President Grant Dose at 8:00 p.m.
- Announcement of Open Meetings Act Posting: At the beginning of the meeting, President Grant Dose announced that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted on the south wall of the Board Room.
- Reading and Approval of Minutes: Approved as presented.
- Reading and Approval of Board Bills: Motion by Klute, second by Faller to approve the receipts, expenditures and payment of bills as submitted by the administration to the board. After discussion, the motion carried by unanimous vote.
- Treasurer’s Report: Approved as presented.
- Board Committee Reports:
- Grounds: Joel Miller placed wasp-type insects by the cattle to help control the fly population.
- Administration Reports:
- Holly Herzberg:
- Updated the board agenda to include live links for documents being discussed.
- The online ACT given to juniors had a scoring issue this year. All scores were recalculated, leading to an increase for most Hampton students.
- Reviewed the steps for the Triennial Assessment, which ties into our Local Wellness Policy 5141.00.
- H & H Sports Coop Committees will meet on June 15th @ 8:30 PM in Hampton to review year one.
- Spring coaches dinner is June 9th, to talk about how the Spring sports went for the H & H Coop this year.
- The kitchen flooring in the Success Center that was damaged earlier this year was replaced on May 20th.
- Carson Klute:
- Last week summer weights officially began.
- The girls and boys basketball teams jointly hosted a youth camp. There was good attendance on both the girls and boys side.
- In finishing-out the school year, H&H was represented at the state track meet in several events. For the second year in a row, Mason Wiens ran at the state meet. In golf. Landen Hansen finished the highest at district and missed out on state by only a couple of shots.
- Along with report cards, student schedules were mailed home last week. Students signed up for their classes in April with the goal of reducing the amount of classes that are changed in August.
- Angie Arndt:
- Summer School begins June 15. Mrs. Begley will be providing reading and math support to 9 students for 4 weeks in June and July, 2 in each month.
- Summer cleaning and maintenance has started in the elementary building. All classrooms are finished and our new 2nd grade teacher will pick up her keys and begin moving items into the classroom tomorrow.
- Tammy Wolinski:
- Presented final numbers for the Science curriculum quotes. K-5 has chosen the product “TWIG” by the Imagine Learning Company. TWIG will require outsourcing for the extra supplies that are needed. The 6-12 has chosen the product “Experience Science” by the Savvas company. There will be no outsourcing for the supplies on this curriculum.
- Katelyn Goertzen:
- Summer library started last Tuesday, there are 4 more weeks left.
- Public Comment: None.
- Action Items:
- Motion made by Wiens to take all necessary action with regard to approving breakfast and lunch prices for 2026-27. Motion seconded by Olsen. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Dose to take all necessary action with regard to approving substitute pay for 2026-27. Motion seconded by Faller. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
- Discussed, considered, and took all necessary action on the first read of Policy 3275.00, 5111.21, 6151.31. No action taken.
- Motion made by Wiens to take all necessary action with regard to approving policy revisions to 1111.00, 3220.00, 5111.20, 5112.00, 5115.10, 5123.00, 5123.10, 9130.00, 9344.00. Motion seconded by Olsen. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Wiens to take all necessary action with regard to approving the resolution for 2026-27 staff trainings. Motion seconded by Klute. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Olsen to take all necessary action with regard to approving admission prices for 2026-27. Motion seconded by Dose. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Litz to take all necessary action with regard to approve adopting the Science Curriculum for K-5 and 6-12. Motion seconded by Olsen. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
- Motion made by Wiens to take all necessary action with regard to approving adding Superintendent Carson Klute as an authorized signer and removing Holly Herzberg for all accounts at Cornerstone Bank beginning July 1, 2026. Motion seconded by Derek Klute. Roll call vote was taken. Motion carried.
X. Discussion Items:
- Budget Workshop is set for July 13.
- Next meeting will be Monday, July 13th, 2026 at 8:00 P.M
XI. Motion to adjourn: Motion by Dose, seconded by Faller to adjourn the meeting at 9:16 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
