There’s not much time for prepping when it comes to girls’ golf. The H&H Bearcat Girls Golf Team has been out at Galaway Creek practicing since last Monday, August 10, and will travel to Central City today, August 20 for an opening scramble. This will be Head Coach Chad Buzek’s fourth season coaching the girls program.

There are seven girls out for golf this season, including returning seniors Tara Buzek, Meggan Friesen, Kinsley Friesen, and sophomore Brinley Mierau. New this season are senior Emma Ott,  freshman Violet Goertzen, and Makalyn Goertzen.

“My goal for the team this year is to get 1% better every day and have some fun. It’s definitely a marathon and not a sprint with some inexperienced girls just learning the game,” said Coach Buzek.

The Bearcats will be missing Mia Hiebner, who had an outstanding high school career, medaling at state several times. “Tara just missed state by one stroke last year and medaled at a few meets so I expect her to come around this season. Kinsley started coming on strong at the end of last season, and Meggan was battling an injury last year,” said Coach Buzek.

“The girls are swinging away and working hard on controlling their direction and short game,” said Buzek about their practice at Galaway Creek. He said the new golfers on the team will have opportunities to golf in a few JV meets during the season.

After this week’s scramble event, the varsity girls will face a challenge golfing 18 holes at the Indianhead Invite in Grand Island next Tuesday, August 25th.
