Heartland Industrial Technology teacher Chad Buzek who was the boys' head coach last spring will take over the girls' golf program this fall.

The Heartland Huskie girls’ golf team may have low numbers but not talent. Returning is state qualifier Mia Hiebner, who placed 13th at last year’s state golf meet. Heartland Industrial Technology teacher Chad Buzek will be coaching the girls’ program for the first time. He coached the boys’ golf team last spring and is excited to begin building a girls’ program.

Hiebner will have one other teammate this season, freshman Tara Buzek. “My daughter Tara, decided about three weeks ago that she would go out for golf. She’s entirely new to the game, but she has been taking lessons from Bill Thomas at the York Country Club and is dedicated to improving,” said Coach Buzek.

“I’m excited about what Mia will do this season. She’s been golfing all summer and competed in a few junior meets. The sky is really the limit for her, and I look for her to be going back to state this year,” said Coach Buzek.

Hiebner competed in two junior events this summer, winning first place in her 14-15 age division at Hidden Valley in Lincoln and at the York Country Club. “I got in a lot of golf this summer and believe my scores will show improvement and more consistency,” said Hiebner.

The team is practicing every morning this week at Galaway Creek and plans on being ready for their first three-person scramble event at Valley View Golf Course in Central City on August 17th.

Fall golf has a short season ending in early October, so their schedule is packed with two meets most weeks. There will be one home meet at Galaway Creek on Thursday, September 7th.
