Corinna Siebert Ruth of Reedley, California will be in Henderson at the annual Heritage Day Saturday, September 15 for a book signing of her recent novel, “The Tread of Pioneers.”  She will be signing books that may be purchased in the General Store from 9 AM – 2 PM during Heritage Day.

“The Tread of Pioneers” depicts the immigration story of the 18,000 Russian Mennonites who came to America in the 1870s.  Beginning in the Molotschna Colony in South Russia, her story is later set in the grasslands of Nebraska, where austere and hazardous living conditions greet the Mennonites when they arrive.  Ironically, Aganetha Friesen, the protagonist, gains a new wisdom through her trials, and her life changes completely.  Her surroundings take on a new dimension, and the prairie suddenly glows in all its beauty and its potential for a new life free of oppression.

Though Ms. Ruth, formerly Corinna Siebert, lived her formative years on the prairies of Nebraska near Henderson, she has traveled extensively, visiting Russia and Ukraine several times where she explored many of the Mennonite sites described in her novel.

She is currently an adjunct English Instructor at Reedley College where she teaches writing, literature, and critical thinking.  Among her other writings, the author has recently written a nonfiction book about the history of the Mennonites titled “The Unfolding of our Story.”  For more information about the author and her work, please refer to her website at www.corinnasiebertruth.com.
