GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – The Nebraska Siege signed another player from their Grand Island tryout, adding former Morningside defensive lineman Connor Boehr to a camp contract.

Boehr, a Henderson native, graduated from Morningside in 2023. He was part of the Mustangs’ national championship team in 2021.

Since graduation, Boehr returned to Henderson to coach the Heartland Huskies. He saw the tryout as a chance to return to playing.

“I just saw there was kind of a new opportunity with the new team, so I thought it would be pretty cool to be part of history here and be part of this expansion team,” Boehr said. “It was too good to miss.”

Boehr acknowledged he was not in peak condition at the tryout.

“ I was a little out of shape, but overall it was good. I could still run fast, so that worked out,” he said. “I’m looking forward to polishing some skills and getting back up to speed.”

Boehr said earning the camp contract was unexpected, but he knows more work remains.

“So it’s an awesome opportunity, but it’s just the first stepping stone. There’s always another contract we’ve got to get signed, hoping to make the final roster,” Boehr said. “So I’m looking forward to more to come. Looking forward to seeing that stadium full back there, seeing the fans getting out here for the first games of the Siege team. It’s going to be a great opportunity. I hope I can be part of that roster and be part of that atmosphere.”

Boehr and the other new signees report to camp May 14. The Siege open their season May 23 at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Minnesota Warhawks.
