A good crowd enjoyed perfect weather Sunday afternoon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Gathering Room
It took a long time coming, but it was time to celebrate at the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park on Sunday afternoon! Around 100 people gathered outside the Gathering Room for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and Faspa to follow. President Suzanne Ratzlaff expressed gratitude to the various donors and supporters, recognizing York County Visitors Bureau, Cornerstone Bank, Henderson State Bank, and Mainstay Communications for their financial donations.
“We would never have been able to do this alone, so we thank all of you for supporting this project and helping Henderson’s past, present, and future be remembered for generations to come,” said Ratzlaff. “Believe me, it does take a village for something like this to happen, so we thank all of you greatly.”
Ratzlaff also thanked representatives from ACRE Design for their innovation and expertise in envisioning the building, Ironhide Construction for completing the project, and Mainstay Communications for providing all the technology inside the building and around the Heritage Park.
York County Visitors Bureau director Alex Saathoff expressed their appreciation for the project. “We are so excited to fund projects like these and see how they add a new dimension to the Heritage Park. This is truly a great addition to our county.”
The Gathering Room has already been utilized for class reunions, birthday parties, a banquet, meetings, and a tour luncheon, according to Ratzlaff. It will be used for an upcoming graduation celebration for one of the Heritage committee’s youngest volunteers, Ashton Lyons.
Representatives from the major sponsors, contractors, and Heritage Committee members gathered in front of the building as Vice President Byron Friesen performed the official ribbon cutting.

Everyone was invited to The Gathering Room to enjoy a traditional Faspa meal of Zweibach, bologna, cheese, pickles, and cake after the ribbon-cutting.
