Heartland Community School Release
The Heartland quiz bowl team traveled to Seward on Wednesday, April 1st, to compete in the History/Geography tournament. The morning started like an April Fool’s Day joke with the organizer informing us that we were scheduled to have two teams, but we only brought six students.
The team members played a little rock-paper-scissors and divided into two teams to compete in the round robin matches scheduled for the morning. The two teams were each a player short, but they competed hard and ended the morning with a combined record of 3-3.
The afternoon consisted of a single-elimination tournament, and the members combined to form one full team. The first match against Dorchester started slowly, but the Huskies came away with a decisive 100-point victory.
The next match was against the second seed from Shelby-Rising City, and the Huskies dominated the match from the start and won 125-60. The third round was a rematch against Howells-Dodge, and having a full team resulted in a victory. After winning their way through the bracket, the team faced the team from Nebraska Lutheran. The team got off to a slow start and finished the day as the runner-up team.
The team will compete in the Underclassmen Quiz Bowl on May 6th in Seward to conclude the season.
