Spectacular fireworks provided by the City of Henderson were on full display Saturday night at Lakeview Park for a boomin’ good time to top off Saturday’s festivities in Henderson!

It was a lovely weekend for celebrating Henderson Community Days! The weather was picture perfect with welcomed cooler temperatures and low humidity. Large crowds were on hand for the Friday night BBQ and the Saturday evening Hamburger Feed. Jackson Wayne and friends put on an awesome concert for a couple of hours on Saturday that was enjoyed by all!

Saturday night was topped off with the City of Henderson’s Fireworks Show at Lakeview Park, and as usual, it did not disappoint! On Sunday morning, the Henderson churches came together for a community church service in the park that was well attended.

“We had great turnouts this year and ran out of food on both Friday and Saturday night, even though we planned for 600,” said Nicole Mierau, Henderson Chamber of Commerce board member. There were 30 parade entrants, and the kids’ parade was new this year, with over 30 kids entered, said Mierau.

It was great to see so many young people involved in Community Days. Heartland Community School raised over $400 with the DUNK Tank and will use the money to purchase school supplies for kids in need. Hayden Powers did an outstanding job performing the National Anthem to kick off the parade, and Jackson Wayne entertained everyone alongside his classmates Luke and Braden Janzen, KatrinaMarie Epp, Emersyn Oswald, Sam Quiring, and Caleb Klingenberg, the grandson of Mike and JoAnn Friesen from Beatrice.

The annual Scavenger Hunt organized by Kasey Blase had a three-way tie for first place: Clara, Charlotte, and Luke Schultz, Deb’s Daycare kids, and Mark & Judy Epp’s grandkids, Emery O’Brien, Maya Epp, and Kenzie Platt.

“We want to give a huge thank you to Circle 5 Beef, who sponsored all of Saturday night, as well as the hamburgers on Friday, and the Jackson Wayne concert. Overall, it was a fantastic year that was planned and executed by the Henderson Community Days Committee led by Judy Epp,” said Mierau.

Such a successful Community Days would not have been possible without all the countless volunteers and organizations who helped with the many events. This year’s Henderson Community Days Committee included Angie Allgood, Kasey Blase, JoAnn Friesen, Kelsey Goertzen, Kathie Lynn, Nicole Mierau, Valerie Nunnenkamp, Caitlin O’Brien, Bev Quiring, Geoff Rose, Rebecca Schultz, and Deb Wilhelm.
