Brigham Blase stops by to fish at Lakeview Park Lake pretty much every day, where he caught a large catfish on Monday afternoon!

The Lakeview Park lake has become a hot spot for area kids to fish this summer. It’s refreshing to see kids in the community spending time at the lake just fishin’, and they have been rewarded!

We ‘caught’ up with Brigham Blase, who snagged a 13.72-pound catfish on Monday afternoon.

“It was my first and last catch of the day since I didn’t catch anything else after the catfish. I had my drag really high up with a 30 lb. line on and I used a bluegill head for bait,” said Brigham.

After the catch, Brigham released him back in the lake to “grow bigger,” he said.

His fishing buddies Micaiah Conrad, Lamar Gloystein, Liam Swanson, and Roman Wolf were there to witness his big catch. “They couldn’t believe how big the mouth was on it, which you could put your whole hand down,” said Brigham.

Brigham is no stranger to fishing since he has grown up spending parts of his summer at Johnson Lake, where his grandparents own a cabin. “I caught a 20 lb. catfish out at Johnson Lake and just got back from spending a week with my Grandma Dee Steever fishing at Johnson.”

He says it’s just fun reeling in fish, but he doesn’t always enjoy the waiting. Besides catfish, he and his friends regularly catch blue gill, bullhead, carp, and sometimes a snapping turtle.

There’s nothing like a big catch to keep you coming back, and on Tuesday, Brigham was back at it with friends Micah Haidle (left) and Lamar Gloystein (right).

Brigham will be entering 7th grade at Heartland this fall and is the son of Seth and Kasey Blase.
