It wasn’t pretty, but the Heartland Huskie boys came out with a 51-46 win against the Superior Wildcats in their first round of play at C2-2 subdistricts at Sandy Creek Monday night. It looked like the Huskies were going to dominate when they came out strong with a 10-2 lead early in the first quarter, but the Wildcats came storming back. They tied the game at 10-10, and the quarter ended with the Huskies ahead 13-10.

The second quarter was ice cold for both teams, with the Huskies managing to keep ahead just enough, only scoring nine points. Freshman Maddox Regier came off the bench and provided a spark, nailing a three-pointer, making the score going into halftime 22-16 in favor of the Huskies.

Again, in the third quarter, it looked as if the Huskies had the game in hand with an 18-point lead when the score was 39-21, but the Wildcats started hitting 3-pointers and got within five points of the Huskies at the end of the third quarter.

Behind a strong performance by Carter Siebert, leading the Huskies with 19 points and followed by Thane Wetjen with 15, the Huskies prevailed, winning 51-46. Tonight, the Huskies will face off against the number one seed Sandy Creek Cougars on their home court at 5:30 p.m.

Scoring by quarters:

Individual scoring: Carter Siebert – 19, Thane Wetjen – 15, Sam Quiring – 8, Maddox Regier – 6, Nick Thieszen – 3
