Huskie Basketball Teams Come Up Short Against Thayer Central & McCool Junction Friday & Saturday at Home

Heartland Huskie GIRLS vs. Thayer-Central Stats & Recap:

The Heartland Huskie girls lost to the Thayer-Central Titans 22-41 on Friday night at home. After tying up the game at 13-13 midway through the second quarter, they couldn’t get ahead of the strong Titan offense. The Titans’ tough defense and press resulted in 19 Huskie turnovers. The Huskies were 10-33 in shooting and led in scoring by Allie Boehr with six points and Mia Hiebner with five.

Heartland Huskie BOYS vs. Thayer-Central Stats & Recap:

It came down to the wire, and with a three-pointer going in at the buzzer, the Titans came away with the win, beating the Huskies 45-42. It was a close first quarter, but the Huskies suffered a scoring drought in the second quarter before Carter Siebert broke it with a three-pointer, making the score 11-18 before half-time.

The Titans led the third quarter, but the Huskies were still in it and fired up when Hendric Switzer hit a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter, with the score 23-31. As the Huskies demonstrated in their come-from-behind win on Tuesday against Deshler, there is no giving up for this team.

Behind two free throws by Switzer the Huskies tied up the game at 40-40 with less than a minute to go. It was tied again at 42-42 after Thane Wetjen’s shot with 6.8 seconds to go. It was a heartbreaker for the Huskies when the Titans made the buzzer-beater three-pointer, winning 45-42.

Heartland Huskie GIRLS vs. McCool Junction stats & recap:

The Heartland Huskie Girls lost to McCool Junction on Saturday afternoon 29-61. The Huskies could only manage single-digit scoring each quarter, but they outscored the Mustangs 8-2 in the fourth. Mia Hiebner led the team in scoring with 13 points.

Heartland Huskie BOYS vs. McCool Junction stats & recap:

The Heartland Huskie boys started slowly, scoring only five points in the first quarter with a three-pointer and field goal by Carter Siebert. The Mustang’s offense was fast and strong, scoring 19 against the Huskies. The Huskies had a much better second quarter but couldn’t catch up against the Mustangs who continued to dominate the game. Siebert led the team in scoring with 21, and the Huskies outscored the Mustangs in the fourth quarter, but their lead was too much to overcome. They lost to the Mustangs 48-70.
