Heartland Huskies Beat Superior Wildcats 26-20

The Heartland Huskie football team came out with a win 26-20 against the Superior Wildcats on Friday afternoon in Superior. Even though the Wildcats were 0-5, they managed to stay in the game and had a chance to put away the Huskies near the end of the fourth quarter, but a fumble recovery by Heartland sealed their win. The Huskies record is 3-3 for the season.

The game was scoreless through the first quarter, and it was the Huskies who scored in the second quarter when Carter Siebert ran 27 yards in for the touchdown. The extra points attempt failed, and the Huskies had their first lead of the game at 6-0. Siebert had a great 54-yard run for another touchdown near the end of the first quarter, but the two-point conversion failed, making the score 12-0.

The Wildcats answered back quickly, scoring a touchdown by Lincoln Sander with a failed two-point conversion. With the Wildcats on the board, the score was 12-6 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Sander scored again, but they didn’t convert on the extra points attempt, so the game was tied at 12-12. Near the end of the third quarter, Huskie quarterback Hudson Regier completed a pass to Nick Thieszen for the touchdown. The extra points attempt failed, and the Huskies had the lead again at 18-12.

With 38 seconds left in the third quarter, Regier ran for 18 yards, scoring the touchdown, and he was able to get the extra two points as well. The Huskies lead was extended to 26-12.

It wasn’t over for the Wildcats in the fourth quarter when Sander scored again, and their extra points conversion was good, making the score 26-20. Near the end of the fourth quarter, it looked as if the Wildcats were going to score, but they fumbled the ball, and the Huskies recovered it.
