The Heartland Huskies athletic teams had a great week! Read on to find out the outcome of the ladies’ golf team, volleyball and football.

The Heartland Huskies Ladies’ Golf Team hosted Exeter-Milligan in a dual on Tuesday afternoon. Exeter-Milligan’s Becca Krupicka shot a 65. Heartland’s junior, Elizabeth Mestl, won with a card of 35, also setting a new school record for nine holes. Senior, Maddie Miller, had a score of 44.

On Thursday, September 3, The Lady Huskies had another good day at Indianhead golf course competing in the Grand Island CC Invite. Elizabeth Mestl shot an 81 to place 1st, Maddie Miller shot a 94 to place 8th. On the JV team, sophomore, Ruby Kliewer, shot a 65 on nine holes to earn 10th place. Competing in the tournament were Broken Bow, Central City, Columbus Scotus, Doniphan-Trumbull, Fullerton, Gibbon, GICC, Hastings Adams Central,  Minden, Northwest, Kearney Catholic, and McCook.

The Heartland Volleyball team traveled to Wilber Clatonia to compete in a triangular against Wilber Clatonia and Sandy Creek on Thursday, September 3. The Huskies won the tournament with wins against both teams. In an exciting battle to the end, the Huskies bested Sandy Creek 2-1 with match scores of 25-21, 21-25 and 25-23. They won against Wilber Clatonia in two sets: 25-23 and 25-17.

On Friday, September 5, the Huskie Football Team hosted Madison at home. The Huskies got off to a slow start, being outscored in the first quarter by 12 points, 8-20. After the slow beginning, however, the Huskies dominated the game with 16-0 points in quarter two, 14-8 points in quarter 3 and finally, 20-0 points in the fourth quarter for a win of 58-28.

Next Week the ladies’ golf team will play a dual against Fullerton on Tuesday at home and host an invitational at home on Thursday. Both the volleyball and football teams have away games next week. Volleyball will play at Thayer Central on Thursday, September 10 and the Football team will play at Nebraska Christian on September 11. Go Huskies!

Note: Due to current Health Measures, the Yorkfest Parade on September 12 will be a vehicle only parade. Therefore, the Heartland Marching Band will be unable to participate this year.
