Sixteen years ago, the Henderson Aquatic Center was officially finished, welcoming swimmers of all ages. Since then, Pool Manager Angie Bergen has hired countless lifeguards, assistant managers, and worked hard at keeping the local pool to where it is today. This year is no different as City of Henderson workers have been cleaning out the pool since April to get ready for opening day.

Keeping the Henderson Aquatic Center up and running is far from a one person job. Bergen has hired 20 lifeguards and two assistant managers for this summer, several of which are returning high school and college students. Lifeguards not only keep everyone safe, but also help with chemical cleaning, vacuuming, and general upkeep throughout the summer. Because of everyone’s hard work at the Henderson Aquatic Center, this allows for mighty fun to be had by all.

During an interview with Angie Bergen, she was asked what her favorite part about having a pool here in Henderson was. She stated, “There is always something to do for all ages. We have swim lessons for students and Ladies Swimnastics that takes place all summer long. Kathy Friesen leads the Ladies Swimnastics in the mornings which creates a great social and exercise outlet for the ladies involved.”

In addition, all of Henderson Aquatic Center lifeguards are trained by the American Red Cross, most of which have their Water Safety Instructor Certificate. This means they are trained to teach private and public swimming lessons each year.  Residents from Henderson, Aurora, Hampton, and York come for swimming lessons. This allows more one-on-one attention during each lesson, maximizing the potential for students to retain what they have learned for years to come. Swimming Lessons can be taken for one or two weeks this summer, starting on June 17. Contact Angie Bergen at (402)-723-4630 for more information.

The Henderson Aquatic Center officially opens for summer this Saturday, May 25 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. They are then open Monday-Friday from 1:00-5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-8:00 p.m. Adult Swim is Monday-Friday from 5:30-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Daily admissions for the pool is $3.50, and children 4 years old and younger are free with a paid admission.
