Excitement is building for Henderson’s 125th Celebration

Henderson will be a busy place during 2012 as Henderson Celebrates the 125th Anniversary of the community. Thorough our the year, the goal will be to Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present and Explore the Future.

The festivities kicked-off on January 8, when Dr. Lauren Friesen gave a presentation about the history of the Mennonites, followed by a faspa organized by the Heritage Committee. Other events planned for the year include ethnic food demonstrations taking place each month. During this hands-on class, participants will learn how to make noodles, ham & noodles, Zwieback, Verenika & Ham Gravy, Rull Kuchen, Green Bean Soup, Priescha, Russian Pancakes, Schnetya, Peppernuts and New Year’s Cookies.

On February 25th, the Henderson Chamber will host the annual Home Show from 9 am – 2 p.m. at Heartland Community Schools with some added 125th Anniversary activities. The first memorabilia items for the 125th Anniversary will also be debuted during the Home Show. In March Heartland Community Schools will once again hold Smorgasbord on March 17th and on April 28 & 29, there will be a Quilt Show at Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park. In July there will be a Bicycle Tour on July 4th and Community Days will be July 13-15. Many special activities will be added to Community Day to celebrate the special event. In September, the Heritage Park will once again hold Heritage Day and Henderson’s actual 125th Birthday Party will be held October 14. The year will end with the annual Noodle Soup Supper and Spirit of Christmas events taking place in December.
