The H&H Bearcats almost spoiled Bridgeport’s homecoming on Friday night. It was a heartbreaker for the Bearcats when the Bulldogs won in the final seconds, going for the extra two to win by one point, 28-27.
The Bearcats turned the ball over on their opening possession, which let the Bulldogs get on the scoreboard first, but they missed their extra point attempt and led 6-0. After the Bulldogs scored, the Bearcats scored on their second offensive play of the game. Landen Hansen threw an 81-yard pass to Landen Rojewski for the TD, and the Bearcats took the lead after making the extra point!
After two more long passes from River Glinsmann in the third quarter that led to two TDs, it looked like the Bearcats had the game in hand, leading 27-12. The Bulldogs answered with a TD early in the fourth quarter. When the Bearcats got the ball back, they drove into Bulldog territory, but the drive stalled, and they turned the ball over on downs with 3:43 left in the game. The Bulldogs came up with another TD with 25 seconds to go and went for two points to win by one, 28-27.
Coach Jones had this to say about the Bearcats’ performance: “Really proud of how we played tonight; we just came up short in the end. I loved the growth we showed and the way all three phases contributed.”
