YORK – While the state’s voter turnout was only 19%, York County’s voter turnout was 25.2%.
As of Election Day, on Tuesday, May 12, there were 9,279 registered voters in York County, according to the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office.
According to the York County Clerk’s office, 2,345 ballots were cast in the county during this year’s Primary Election on Tuesday. Of those, 364 ballots were cast early.
The following is a breakdown, by party affiliation, regarding registered voters and ballots cast in the county:

While some poll locations saw sporadic voting activity, others reported heavy attendance – particularly in Henderson, where the voters numbered over 500. This was likely due to the fact that the residents of this area of the county were tasked with choosing the Republican candidate (and ultimately the final choice) for District 3 York County Commissioner.
Regarding federal and state offices, Republicans in York County largely favored U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts, Congressman Adrian Smith, Governor Jim Pillen, State Attorney General Mike Hilgers, State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg and State Auditor Mike Foley – however, non-incumbent for Secretary of State Scott Petersen received more votes in York County than Bob Evnen.
Regarding federal and state offices, Democrats in York County favored Cindy Burbank for U.S. Senator, Becky Kelly Stille for Congress, Lynn Walz for governor, Sarah Slattery for Nebraska Secretary of State, Daniel Ebers for state treasurer, and Jocelyn Brasher for attorney general.
York County voters largely favored District 24 State Senator Jana Hughes for reelection, compared to Dan Winter, non-incumbent.
A total of 1,585 York County voters cast ballots for Hughes, compared to 607 for Winter.
