The new owners of Dutch Kitchen in Henderson are no strangers to the food service industry. They both bring lifelong experience in food and restaurants as the new owners of the Dutch Kitchen.
Devin and Angela Wichman took over the Dutch Kitchen on December 1 and have been busy settling in and serving their customers. Since moving to Henderson in 2021 with their two children, the Wichmans had considered taking over the local restaurant when Perks came up for sale, but the timing wasn’t right. “It was definitely something we always had in mind, and this time it worked out,” said Angela.
Angela had been working at Kerry’s Restaurant in McCool since 2019, and the week she found out the owners were selling Kerry’s, she also found out the Dutch Kitchen owners were looking to sell.
“Everything just kind of fell into place, and I knew it was time to come back home and for Devin to get back in the kitchen. We definitely did not see this happening in such a short amount of time,” said Angela. Before taking over the restaurant, Devin had been working at Tri County Automotive in Henderson.
Devin and Angela both grew up working in the food service industry. “I started working at McDonald’s in Omaha when I was 14 and went on to work in an elementary school kitchen and a small mom and pop’s restaurant,” said Angela.
Devin also grew up working as a cook in hotels and restaurants before moving to Henderson. “We actually met at a restaurant we were both working at in Omaha; I was the cook, and she was the waitress,” said Devin.

They’ve noticed one of the favorites on the menu right now is their BBQ Bacon Burger, which is topped with their special sauce, bacon, and onion strings, served on Texas Toast. They currently have one full-time employee, Reesa Nissen, who has worked at Dutch for the past three years and has been extremely helpful in helping the Wichmans get acquainted with the restaurant.
The Dutch Kitchen is open Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., but they hope to expand their hours to include a few evenings. “We realize there’s a shortage of food options for the community, and families just like ours are looking for a place to eat in the evening. Once we get established, we will be offering a few open nights.”
The Wichmans have been busy catering, serving, and hosting private parties and events since they took over. They have a full catering menu and sell meat by the pound. “We can smoke brisket or any kind of meat to sell by the pound,” said Devin. They are open to any ideas from their customers for special entrees and, if possible, will accommodate those requests.

A community-favorite ethnic meal they plan to serve on the first Sunday of every month is Verenika. “We are getting some hands-on training from former owner Sheila Huebert on how to prepare Verenika and look forward to providing this unique meal soon,” said Angela.
“We look forward to serving our community and taking care of Henderson with our restaurant,” said Angela.
They post their weekly and daily specials on their Dutch Kitchen Facebook page and can be contacted at 402-723-5471 or email thedutch.events@gmail.com.
