Four Things to Know About Bulldog Bar & Grill in Bradshaw
Since Nov. 18, the Bulldog Bar & Grill has opened back up with new ownership.
It’s a family business
Kathy Meyers, her husband Kent Meyers, and their daughter Kelsey Hawk co-own the restaurant. If the restaurant is open, you can expect at least one of them to be there — to them, that’s the key to consistency.
They’ve also enjoyed great support from the rest of their family. When they were preparing to open, Kathy Meyers’ mother repeatedly made two-hour trips to help them with cleaning, repainting and other tasks to get the restaurant ready.
It’s co-owned by a former employee
Years ago, before Andrea Bolinger purchased (and eventually sold) the Bulldog, Kathy Meyers was a server there. She has fond memories of the love the restaurant received from the community at that time, and she’s hoping to rekindle that support.
“When I worked here before, this community really supported it,” she said. “It’s a small town. We have a few businesses that are still alive. We’re one of the few towns that is able to keep businesses here.”
At that time, the Bulldog’s pizza was especially well known.
“We had really good pizza that we were known for a couple years ago before it sold, and we had people from all over the county come and get pizza from us,” Meyers said.
The menu is simple and familiar
The owners’ goal is for lunch at the Bulldog to feel like a home-cooked meal. They’ve got regular staples like burgers and pizza. Plus, their rotating cast of lunch specials includes things like tater tot casserole and hot beef sandwiches.
That’s a bit of a shift from the previous menu, which Meyers described as “upscale.”
The small menu lets them keep the staff small and close-knit. They’ve been doing a low-key, word-of-mouth search for more kitchen workers, but they’re not in a hurry to expand their operation.
What happened to the old owners?
Former owner Andrea Bolinger and her boyfriend Mitchell Huebert have opened a new restaurant: the White Buffalo Bison Club. It’s in downtown York near Chances “R,” and it’s the only bar in the city of York.
It opened in November to a warm reception. Some of the best-loved items on their menu are their salmon bowls and burgers.
