It was an exciting night of close volleyball matches for the triangular at Hampton High School for all three teams. All three matches went to three sets for H&H vs. Wilber-Clatonia, Sandy Creek vs. Wilber-Clatonia, and H&H vs. Sandy Creek, with all teams playing some great volleyball.
H&H vs. Wilber-Clatonia
The Bearcats came out ready to play and won their first match 25-15 against the Wolverines. It looked like a blowout for the Bearcats when they started the first set ahead 6-0, but Wilber inched back in and got within a couple of points, but the Bearcats kept the lead. The Bearcats pulled away to 20-14 and only allowed the Wolverines to score one more point before closing out the first set. It was all Wolverines in the second set with the Bearcats always playing catch-up, losing 18-25. The Bearcats had the edge and led for most of the third set, ultimately winning 25-19 to secure the match.
H&H BEARCAT STAT HIGHLIGHTS vs. WILBER WOLVERINES
Sophia Minary led the team with eight kills, Maddie Janzen had four, and Ava Hurt, Riley Quiring, and Sophie Schulze each had three. Jaylah Gross had a team-high 29 digs, Khloe Luebbe had 14, and Ava Hurt and Riley Quiring had 11 each. Sophie Schulze recorded three ace blocks, and Riley Quiring was the team leader with two ace serves.
The next match in the triangular was a faceoff between Sandy Creek and Wilber-Clatonia, with the Wolverines winning 2-1.
The final match was H&H against Sandy Creek, going to three very close sets with several lead changes. The Bearcats pulled away and got their largest lead at 22-17, winning the first set 25-18. The second set was even closer with several ties and one-point leads for both teams, but the Cougars prevailed and beat the Bearcats 25-22. The third set was just as close and exciting, tied at 22-22, 23-23, 25-25, 26-26, before the Cougars ultimately won 28-26.
BEARCAT STAT HIGHLIGHTS vs. SANDY CREEK COUGARS
Riley Quiring had a team-high ten kills, Sophie Schulze had eight, and Maddie Janzen with five. Khloe Luebbe, Riley Quiring, and Sophie Schulze all had one ace serve. Setter Ava Hurt recorded 25 assists. Libero Jaylah Gross had 29 digs, Khloe Luebbe with 18, and Ava Hurt had 14. Sophie Schulze had four ace blocks, and Maddie Janzen had two.
