Toes were tapping and hands clapping, Friday August 19th, at the Henderson Care Center dining room. Gary Weldon, an entertainer from Moorehead, IA performed to residents and family members from the Henderson Care Center and Rosewood Court Assisted Living.

The third Friday of each month is designated as the day to celebrate all the birthday and anniversaries for the month. Weldon was the featured entertainer for August. Weldon started by telling a few jokes, followed by his singing program. Big Band songs featuring singers such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Glenn Campbell filled the room. Weldon put on various hats before certain songs to identify the singers.

Following Weldon’s program, Happy Birthday was sung to each one of the residents who had birthdays in the month of August. Those honored were Robert Friesen, Betty Prather, Henry Janzen, Effie Kroeker, Beth Epp and Robert and Jennie Friesen.

Jana Schrunk, Activities Director for the Henderson Care Center schedules the monthly entertainment. “He was wonderful and I hope to have him back,” said Schrunk.

Weldon took time to greet each one in his audience as well as distribute a card including all the local Henderson businesses that helped sponsor his show. Cake and ice cream were then served to the residents and family members.
