The Heartland School Board held a fairly light agenda meeting on Monday, October 12, at 8 pm. for their regular meeting.
Board Members Present: Lacey Gloystein, Ryan Goertzen, Jen Hiebner, Jeb Mierau, Tammy Ott, and Tyler Newton.
Administrators present were Superintendent Jeremy Klein, Elementary Principal Dana Reinke, and High School Principal Tim Carr, who was absent for about half the meeting to attend the H&H volleyball match. Three patrons attended the meeting.
Superintendent Klein Report
He reported that the first quarter ended successfully with strong participation in FFA, marching band, sports and other activities. “I’m proud of the work of our staff, investing the effort and expertise to ensure the success of our students this quarter,” said Klein.
Three students and one adult are scheduled to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis from October 20-24. The board’s annual superintendent evaluation will occur during November and December, and Board Chair Tyler Newton will coordinate timelines.
“The first joint Hampton/Heartland homecoming was largely successful and was a joint effort involving a lot of work by Mr. Carr and the Hampton administration. Something new like this has a lot of areas where things need to be figured out and some compromises made,” said Klein.
Building/Construction Update
Klein investigated some water penetration in the interconnection hallway to the Ag building. Hausmann has been notified of the problem.
Tyler Newton and Superintendent Klein completed a walk-through inspection with the playground company, and only some cleanup and turf seams need fixing. Owner Eric Crouch was at Heartland and adjusted the swing height and the pitch for the slide.
Discussion of H&H Co-op Renew for Another 2-year Term
Gloystein noted that Hampton would vote on the renewal at their Monday night meeting. She suggested the board consider moving the vote up from December to November. The board agreed to keep the original renewal vote date in December.
Action Items
The Board approved the 27-28 Option Enrollment Limits Resolution after a lengthy discussion about why the maximum cap is set for option enrollments. They also approved the HEA 28-29 Negotiations.
The Board went into Executive Session at 8:44 p.m. for 27-28 negotiations with HEA.
The next regular school board meeting is set for Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
