This year’s Russian Oven Pizza event at Heritage Park on Sunday was a lovely evening spent enjoying pizza, root beer floats, and live music.

Those attending didn’t have to wait long for the pizzas cooked in the wood-fired outdoor oven, since volunteers worked ahead, placing them in a portable warmer, ready to go. Approximately 162 pizzas were served, according to Henderson Heritage & Tourism president Suzanne Ratzlaff. This is a fundraiser for Heritage Park, and free will donations were accepted for the meal.

Jackson Wayne and his mother, Melanie Miller, were on hand performing live outside the barn while the crowd enjoyed eating pizza on a wonderful summer evening. Root beer floats were flowing from the farmhouse’s front porch and made a delicious way to top off the meal.

It’s a bit tricky regulating the temperature in an outdoor oven, but Mark Epp and Eugene Goering were up to the task, churning out over 150 pizzas.

Carol Ott and Melvah Emerson were busy all evening serving up the popular root beer floats. Pictured above is Laura Steingard, with her two floats and below are Darlene Janzen, Wilma Dick, and Jennie Friesen ready to enjoy their floats.

The cooler weather made for a perfect evening, as visitors checked in and volunteer Julie Goertzen served them hot pizza.
