The H&H Bearcat girls and boys faced off against Twin River at the Hampton gym on Saturday afternoon, with both teams on the losing end. The girls lost 49-43, and the boys lost 65-57.
The H&H Bearcat girls had a sluggish first quarter, scoring only two points to Twin River’s 12, but they picked up the pace as the game went on and never gave up. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Bearcats got within four points, down 41-37, with some shots and free throws by Mia Hiebner and Sophie Minary. Even though they outscored the Titans in the fourth quarter, it just wasn’t enough. The Bearcats were led in scoring by Mia Hiebner and Sophie Minary with 11 each.

The Bearcat boys hung tough most of the game, battling the Titans, and were never out of the game. In the second quarter, after an assist from Jagger Regier to Camden Riggs, the Bearcats closed the gap to within one point behind 26-25. They went into halftime trailing by six points. In the third quarter, the Bearcats got into foul trouble with two starters, Wyatt Dose and Jagger Regier, with four fouls each.
It was an exciting end to the third quarter. With just a few seconds left, the Titans missed a free throw, and Holden Switzer got the rebound and scored for the Bearcats, making the score 45-39. The Bearcats had a few too many turnovers in the fourth quarter, and the Titans got hot, hitting three pointers. Leading the Bearcats in scoring were Wyatt Dose with 19 and Maddox Regier with 17.
