The H&H Bearcat girls and boys team traveled to face off against the David City Scouts on Tuesday. The girls lost 54-23, and the boys lost a heartbreaker 55-54.

The Bearcat girls only scored six points to the Scouts’ 30 in the first half. Their slow start was too big a deficit to overcome. Sophie Minary led the Bearcats in scoring with 10 points, and Tara Buzek chipped in four points.

The Bearcat boys lost a heartbreaker at the buzzer when they had the lead by one point with a few seconds left, and David City answered with a two-pointer to win the game by one point. The Bearcats were tied at the end of the first quarter, but they took a commanding lead by as much as 10 points right before halftime.

They kept the lead in the third, but the Bearcats’ scoring dried up in the final quarter, letting the Scouts back in the game. With 1:05 to go, the Scouts tied up the game at 52-52 after banking in a three-pointer. The lead switched back and forth, and it looked like the Bearcats would escape with a win after Maddox Regier was fouled and he made both free throws, giving the Bearcats the lead at 54-53. The Scouts called a timeout and were able to put up a jumper at the buzzer to win the game.
