York County Press Release
YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Office has announced it now has access to drone technology and two licensed deputies who will operate the system.
Officials with the YSO explained, “This drone will be a valuable tool which enhances safety for both our deputies and the community we serve.
“Our drone can assist with search and rescue – locating missing or endangered individuals faster, especially in rural or hard-to-reach areas; it can help with crash reconstruction – capturing aerial images to help investigators accurately map serious crash scenes; crime scene documentation – providing detailed overhead views which improve evidence collection; fugitive or suspect searches – offering a safer way to search large areas without putting deputies in harm’s way; disaster response – assessing damage from storms, flooding or other emergencies.
“This technology helps us work smarter, respond more quickly, and keep York County safer. We are excited to put this tool to work for our community.”
They said Deputies Cullen and Steel have obtained their FAA Part 107 license, which qualifies them to pilot unmanned aircraft systems.
