MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE HAMPTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The meeting of the Hampton Board of Education of Hampton Public Schools was convened in open and public session on Monday, March 9th, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Hampton High School, 458 5th Street, Hampton, Nebraska.
The roll was called and the following Board members were present or absent:
Present: Megan Faller, Derek Klute, Grant Dose, Erin Olsen, Brian Litz, and Tamara Wiens.
Absent: None
Also in attendance were Superintendent Holly Herzberg, High School Principal Carson Klute, Elementary Principal Angie Arndt, Katelyn Goertzen, and Tammy Wolinski.
Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication and/or posting in accordance with the Board approved method for giving notice of meetings. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. The Secretary of the Board maintains a list of the news media requesting notification of the meetings and advance notification to the listed media of the time and place of the meeting and subjects to be discussed at this meeting was provided. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as attendance of the public.
- Call Meeting to Order: The meeting was duly called to order by President Grant Dose at 7:30 p.m.
- Announcement of Open Meetings Act Posting: At the beginning of the meeting, President Grant Dose announced that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted on the south wall of the Board Room.
- Reading and Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the regular February Board Meeting were approved as presented.
- Reading and Approval of Board Bills: Motion by Klute, second by Dose to approve the receipts, expenditures and payment of bills as submitted by the administration to the board. After discussion, the motion was carried by unanimous vote.
- Treasurer’s Report: Approved as presented.
- Board Committee Reports:
- Grounds- Brian will spread the gravel in the parking lot on Saturday afternoon.
- Administration Reports:
- Holly Herzberg:
- The Insulator was onsite, they inspected the piping above the Language Arts room for leaks but it was totally dry. They will continue to monitor. There is no start-up date for the condensing unit yet. Boiler violation items are now complete – Holly sent documentation to the fire marshal to get approval/certificates issued.
- Teacher contracts will be issued on March 15th (a Sunday) and will be required to be signed/returned by April 1, 2026 per the negotiated agreement.
- Carson and Holly will be working on extra-duty assignments this next month.
- There have been 2 new people file and 1 incumbent file for the school board elections.
- NSCAS testing (grades 3-8) will begin the week of March 30th.
- Carson Klute:
- Erin Olsen and Carson attended Justin Knight’s legal update and legislative summary at the ESU in February.
- The High School Quiz Bowl team was CRC Runner-Up.
- Hoop/gym inspection was done on both the North and South gyms. 3 safety straps were installed and self-tappers were put into all hoops in the North gym to prevent the jack-knifing..The company did a full assessment while they were onsite and proposed some future possible repairs.
- Angie Arndt:
- Annie the Musical was last Thursday night and it was a HUGE success with approximately 300 people in attendance! Congrats to Mrs. Farris and all the 3rd-6th graders that participated.
- We have 7 elementary students registered to attend the ESU9 Chess Tournament on March 23rd.
- Girls on the Run practices started today. 14 students are registered to participate and attend the 5K in Lincoln on April 19. Mrs. Begley and Mrs. Arndt will be coaching this spring.
- On February 25, staff went to High Plains for instructional rounds. High Plains staff will then come here to Hampton on April 13.
- Katelyn Goertzen:
- Juniors are going to Career day March 10 in York.
- ACT/PreACT is on March 24 along with a mini college/career fair. Both assessments will be given online for juniors & sophomores. Carson will be assisting Holly this year with the ACT so he can learn the procedures as he transitions into the director of assessment role next year. Jereme Jones will be assisting Katelyn Goertzen with the PreACT so he can also gain more experience and knowledge with the process.
- Spotlight on Speech is March 10th, and Districts is next week, with state later
- NHS induction ceremony is March 19th @ 7:30 PM.
- Read Across America and the Book fair was last week with a good turnout.
- Tammy Wolinsksi:
- Staff is looking at different science curriculums and are hoping to have one selected by May.
- Public Comment: None.
- Action Items:
- The bid for student chromebooks was presented to the Board for approval. Motion by Wiens, 2nd by Klute to approve the bid for student Chromebooks as presented. Roll call vote taken. Motion carried.
- The revision of policies 1112.00, 3322.00, and 5140.50 was presented to the Board for approval. Motion by Olsen, 2nd by Wiens to approve the revision of policies 1112.00, 3322.00, and 5140.50 as presented. Roll call vote taken. Motion carried.
XI. Discussion Items:
A. Foundation Scholarship – local scholarships will be completed and ready to be
reviewed at the April board meeting.
B. Next meeting April 13th, at 8:00 P.M. (Note the new time change)
XII. Motion to adjourn: Motion by Litz, seconded by Klute to adjourn the meeting at 8:10 p.m. The meeting was duly adjourned.
