The Bearcat girls and boys basketball teams competed against the Wilbur Wolverines at Wilbur on Friday night. The boys came home with their first win, beating the Wolverines 62-35, and the girls lost 64-46.
For the Bearcat boys, senior Trent Goertzen led the way in the first half with 14 points, and freshman Jagger Regier added seven points to take a 31-14 lead at halftime. The Bearcats were leading by 12 at the end of the third quarter and stretched the lead to 18 at one point in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines made a late run, but it wasn’t enough as the Bearcats held off senior Jamison Conway, who led the Wolverines with 20 points.

The girls’ game at halftime was a close one, with the Bearcats leading 25-23 going into the locker room. They were led in the first half by Hallie Tessman, scoring nine points, and Grace Splinter, with seven. In the second half, Wilbur came out firing up threes, making four in the first four minutes of the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter, Wilbur was leading 47-37. In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats’ offensive woes continued, as they scored only nine points. They were led in scoring by Hallie Tessman and Sophie Minary with 12 points each.
