It was a fun night for the Bearcat boys basketball team at the Heartland gym on Friday night, handily beating the visiting Thayer Central Titans 59-22, but not so for the girls. They lost 75-27 to the Titans despite Senior Mia Hiebner, who came out firing threes, making five, and leading the scoring with 18 points.
Hiebner made the opening shot of the game with her first three-pointer and followed it up with another, keeping the score within one point of the Titans at 12-11, but they quickly fell behind as the Titans outshot the Bearcats. The Titans’ smothering defense plagued the Bearcats throughout the game, leading to too many turnovers.
The Bearcats’ offense went cold in the third quarter, scoring only six points by Hiebner, who made another two three-pointers. The Bearcats will have to regroup quickly as they travel to Cross County for a game on Saturday.

The H&H Bearcat boys had a great start against the Titans, holding them scoreless at 14-0 with a few minutes to go in the first quarter. Maddox Regier hit a three-pointer near the end of the first quarter, and the Titans answered back with one of their own, ending the quarter at 17-5. The Bearcats continued to dominate the game, holding the Titans to single digits in every quarter.
The Bearcats were led in scoring by Wyatt Dose with 15 points and Maddox Regier with 11, who both made three three-pointers. The boys will have their next game on January 3rd at home in Hampton against McCool Junction.
