Wagon rides around the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park on Heritage Day are only one of many fun activities coming up!

Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park officially opens this Memorial Weekend. The opening kickoff will be on Saturday, the 24th, and Monday, the 26th, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The 8 1/2-acre park has something for all ages to enjoy. Explore its historic buildings and learn about the Mennonite immigrants who left South Russia, today’s Ukraine, to settle in York and Hamilton counties. Visit the Immigrant House, Henderson Depot, Country School House and Church, East Side Cafe, and more.

Storytelling tours are available for individuals and groups of all sizes. At the general store, you can shop for unique gifts, books, and handmade craft items. Golf carts are available to assist visitors from one building to the next. The Immigrant House has some new memorabilia from Russia that has been added to the display cases.

The much anticipated completion of the new Gathering Room building is expected to be ready for use by the end of July, according to Suzanne Ratzlaff, HMHP president.

Heritage Park has already had several tour groups visit this spring. It hosted its annual Good Friday Hymn Sing and the Anabaptist Story Reenactment in April. Tours at Heritage Park may be arranged at any time of the year.
