Heartland hosted its annual Winter Song event, “Fire & Ice,” on Saturday, Feb. 18, to a sold-out crowd. Those attending were served appetizers and desserts while enjoying a wide variety of music performed by Heartland students. Solos, small ensembles, a mixed chorus accompanied by a house band, and professional lighting and sound made the evening a musical and visual delight.

Heartland had its first WinterSong event in 2008, according to Choral director Lynn Hall. “We have done it bi-yearly since then, so this is probably our 9th one.” It’s a great tradition, and the Heartland students did a fantastic job performing and helping run, as always, a first-class show.

This year’s MCs were Jake Goertzen and Ben Janzen, who kept the evening running smoothly while introducing each new performance. The House Band (Lynn Hall – keyboard, Braden Janzen – guitar/bass/percussion, Ted Kreibel – percussion/drums, Jay Kroeker – guitar, Marilyn Kroeker – keyboard, Zach Miller – bass guitar) was excellent, accompanying a wide variety of songs flawlessly!

To put on a production like WinterSong takes much preparation, especially for those individuals involved in the small groups and solos, said Mr. Hall. “This is a great event that our communities look forward to and our students can take pride in.”

Mr. Hall commended the sound crew of Rick Johnson and Matt Siebert, as well as Paul Watson, for the lighting, making for a very professional production.
