It was a three-set match against Palmer, with Heartland winning 26-24, 12-24, 25-23.

Senior Kaylee Goertzen led the Huskies with nine kills with a .353 hitting percentage. Senior Hayden Mierau served up three aces to help put away the Palmer Tigers. Junior Isabel Johnson led the Huskies with 18 digs and Mierau with 12.

In their next match, the Osceola Bulldogs swept the Huskies in two sets, 15-25, 22-25. Mierau served four aces, Kaylee Goertzen led the team with four kills, and Johnson had 15 digs.

Saturday, August 26, the Heartland Huskies traveled to Overton for a tournament with Anselmo/Merna, Maxwell, Shelton, Central Valley, North Platte St. Pat’s, and Hitchcock County.

Their first match was against the Overton Eagles, losing in two sets, 13-25 and 6-25. Overton was a tough opponent for Heartland. They were state runner-up champions and won their district and conference titles last year with a record of 30-5.

Next, they played Hitchcock County and were defeated 11-25 and 23-25.

Heartland Football Team Shut Out by Shelby-Rising City

It was a tough night for the Huskies playing their first game away at Shelby, where they faced a team with plenty of experienced players returning for 2023. The final score was 48-0. At halftime, the score was 0-26, but in the third quarter, Shelby-Rising City scored 16 points, making it difficult for the Huskies to come back.

The Husky defense proved too strong for the Huskies, who only had 13 rushing yards compared to their opponents’ 241. The passing game was better, with 45 yards for the Huskies. Quarterback Hudson Regier had 7 out of 12 completions. Junior Carter Siebert led Heartland with five catches, gaining 32 yards.

Regier, with 12 tackles, was the leading tackler for the Huskies. Junior Sam Quiring was next with eight, and Juniors Luis Alvarez and Carter Siebert both had seven tackles.

Defensively, the Huskies held their opponent on three of their attempts to go for two extra points in the first half.
