The fifth annual HHCS Junior Auxiliary Jaunt will commence at 7:30 a.m. this Saturday during the Henderson Community Days celebration.  The 5K, 10K and one mile fun run all begin just east of the downtown city park shelter.
Community members are encouraged to support runners this year by coming down to the park to enjoy the cool shade and to witness the start and finish of the race OR to encourage runners along the route.  Much of the route is through Lakeview Park and out in the rural area along Road 6 and Road A south and west of Henderson, but residents who live along the route are encouraged to get out and cheer on the athletes as they pass by.
It is very important that the safety of these runners is kept in mind.  All vehicle traffic is encouraged to avoid the runners’ route during race time (7:30 a.m. until approximately 9:00 a.m.)  There will be signs and barricades at most intersections along the route.
The race will proceed south from the park shelter to Birch Street and then head west all the way to Lakeview Park where the course will follow the walking trail.  The runners will leave the park and head south on South Main turning west onto Road 6.  The turn around for the 5K runners is along Road 6, however the 10K runners will continue north onto Road A and run almost all the way to Road 7 before their turn around.  This course is an “out and back†with runners following the same path back in to the starting point to finish the race.
The one mile fun run and walk is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. also beginning at the park shelter.  This race will be completed within city limits included the Birch Street route and part of the Lakeview Park route.  It is very important for community residents to be cautious during this event as many of the participants will be young children.
The farmer’s market will be going on in the downtown park during the race with some vendors having morning refreshments available for sale. Visitors to the farmer’s market are asked to avoid driving on 14th Street and encouraged to use parking in the alley behind Main Street to access the park.
