The Huskie’s played a solid four quarters of basketball, but fell short with free throws, going 8 for 20 and took the loss against Fillmore Central 49-51.  The team came out to play as they used the court and their teammates well and fought hard under the boards.

The team was led by Spencer Friesen, who finished the game with 16 points.  Numerous plays were set up for him and he played well on both ends of the court.

Micheal Brune held his own on the defensive side, keeping one of Fillmore Central’s big guns contained.  Tanner Steingard also did his part with the defensive rebounds as well as finishing the game with 14 points.

The last quarter was intense with the teams trading points as the clock ticked down.  Jesse Nissen hit a huge three pointer to go ahead late in the fourth quarter.  He also made a great play under the boards dishing to Steingard for an easy two.  However, the Panthers were hitting shots of their own and were up by two points while the Huskie’s made every effort to close the small gap.

The first attempt was made by Friesen as he attemped a three pointer with seconds remaining.  The shot was long, but Lincoln Ruybalid saved the ball as it went out of bounds and deflected it off of the opponents leg.  The Huskie’s retained possession with seven seconds left and the play went to Nissen as he tried to tie the ball game by driving down low.  The shot was no good and the Panthers got the ball back with two seconds to go.

A hard, well fought battle, but the Huskies fell short.  They will play again on Tuesday, January 18th against High Plains at home and then hit the road next weekend against Centennial on Friday and Sutton on Saturday.
