Four Corners Press Release
During these spring months, there is a focus on managing our stress and, in broader ways, our overall mental health. Stress in itself isn’t bad. Positive stress, a healthy level of stress, can help us to get out of bed in the morning. It’s when our stress level gets to a high level and stays there for a bit, that it starts to take a toll on our health, physically and mentally.
Here are some tips to help keep our stress to a healthier level:
- Take five. Take a deep breath and relax. Even 5 minutes to take care of yourself can help.
- Be active. Take a walk, stretch, or find another physical activity that works for you.
- Connect with others. Reach out to friends and family.
- Stick to a daily routine that includes rest, physical activity, and eating healthy.
- Seek support from friends, family, and trusted agencies. Talk about your feelings with those you trust. Reach out to clergy or others in your faith community.
- Get help from a professional. Talk to a health care provider about how you are feeling.
- Make an appointment with a counselor.
- Contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org.
- Reach out to Nebraska Family Helpline at 888-866-8660. Available 24/7 for support, resources, and advice at no cost.

Another way to keep stress in control is to create a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP). This tool is a simple and powerful process for creating a plan for mental wellbeing and overall wellness. With WRAP, you can:
- Discover simple, safe, and effective tools to create and maintain wellness.
- Develop a daily plan to stay on track with your life and wellness goals.
- Identify what throws you off track and develop a plan to keep moving forward.
- Gain support and stay in control, even in a crisis.
The WRAP process equips you to identify the tools that keep you well. Also, it helps you create action plans that you can put them into practice in your everyday life. You learn to teach the tools by using them yourself.
Four Corners is offering a WRAP workshop on Wednesday, June 18th, 9 to 4:30 in David City. There is no fee for the class; however, registration is required. To register and learn more, go to: https://fourcorners.ne.gov/community-ed-training/upcoming-events-workshops/
