It may be boys’ golf season, but Heartland Junior Mia Hiebner has been hitting the links competing in the Nebraska Jr. Golf Spring Series. She just had her best finish on May 3rd at the “Magnolia” event held at Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City. She tied for third place, posting her lowest score of the series, a 76.
The Girls Spring Junior Series is for high school-aged golfers (including current 8th graders who will be in 9th grade the following fall semester) who have the opportunity to build their golfing resume by competing as part of a team or as an individual in a series of 18-hole competitions during the spring. There are three events offered in the spring in the girls’ series.
Hiebner has competed in two previous meets: “Azaela” at Jack Rabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island on April 19, where she tied for 9th place, carding an 81. On April 21st, she competed at the “Juniper” competition at the Oakland Golf Course and also tied for 9th with an 89.

Post-season recognition is given to the top five individual point finishers, also known as the SJS All-Star Team. Mia was recognized as one of the top five, with a cumulative 605 points for the three events.

UNL CASNR SCHOLARSHIPS: As part of UNL PGA Golf Management’s sponsorship of this series, UNL College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) will be awarding a $500 scholarship to the top 30 individual players on the series points list. This scholarship will only be applicable to students who enroll in a UNL CASNR degree program.
Congratulations to Hiebner for her SJS All-Star achievement this spring!
