York County Press Release
YORK – This week, the York County Planning and Zoning Board sent proposed solar regulations back to the York County Commissioners.
There was some conversation about including language in the solar field regulations regarding battery storage, but the planning and zoning board members said because there is so little available information on that specific topic they encouraged the commissioners to look into it further via consultants.
It was January 2024 when the planning and zoning committee sent proposed regulations to the county commissioners. Then the commissioners made some revisions and sent it back to the planning committee.
Now it is back in the hands of the county board.
The most hotly debated aspect of the zoning regulations for large industrial solar fields lies in setbacks. Some argue the proposed setbacks are too much, some argue significant setbacks should be required.
It was acknowledged by the planning board how there are concerns about the zoning regulations leading to legal litigation as that is being seen in other counties where solar field regulations are being passed. As Aaron Kavon, chairman of the planning board, said, “We want to make sure this is done in the right way.”
