The Heartland Huskie girls meant business playing away against the Fullerton Warriors on Friday night winning 35-34. It was a very close matchup with several lead changes, but always within a few points. Going into the half, it was a tie ball game at 15-15 after a steal by Hallie Tessman, making the layup and one for the tie.
The end of the third quarter was no different, with the Huskies leading by one point, 27-26. It was the Huskie defense that made the difference in the fourth quarter, with multiple turnovers resulting in fast-break layups. Mia Hiebner was fouled and made one of her two free throws with only four seconds left to give the Huskies the game’s final lead at 35.
Isabel Johnson scored 9 points, making three three-pointers, and Hallie Tessman scored 8 points and scored 4 for 7 at the free throw line. Starter Ariane Sololuze was out with an injury.
This win puts the Huskies at 5-4 for the season with their third straight win. The Warriors are 3-9. Last year was also a close low scoring game with the Warriors, which the Huskie won 26-24.
