The Heartland Community School Quiz Bowl Team traveled to Central City on Monday, January 13th to compete in the Nebraska Christian tournament. In the morning round-robin portion, Heartland finished with a record of 3-0 with victories over Cross County B, Milford A, and Nebraska Christian A.
The afternoon consisted of a 31-team single-elimination bracket, with the Huskies as the #2 seed. After a first-round win against Riverside, the Huskies won a close rematch against Nebraska Christian A and then defeated Thayer Central A decisively.
The semifinal round was against Central City A, and the Huskies were able to avenge a loss from earlier in the year.
The finals pitted Heartland against Heartland Lutheran A, and it was close from the start. Each round consisted of 15 questions, and after the 14th question, Heartland held a slim 15-point lead.
Lutheran buzzed in quickly and cut the lead to 10 points. A correct answer on the final bonus question would tie the match up. Fortunately, the Heartland Lutheran team was unable to correctly answer the bonus, and the Huskies walked away with a 35-25 victory!
